Frequently Asked Questions About Lighter Home
Household Management in Gainesville, FL
General Questions
-
Yes. Lighter Home is a household management service serving Gainesville, FL, from the Duckpond to Tioga and every neighborhood in between. Many of our clients are in neighborhoods on the west side of Gainesville, including Haile Plantation, Oakmont and surrounding neighborhoods. We handle the domestic operations of a home — laundry, kitchen, linens, fridge, pantry, and more — on a weekly schedule for busy professional families.
-
Household management is the ongoing operational care of a home, including laundry, kitchen resets, linen changes, fridge and pantry upkeep, mail sorting and light organization, handled by the same trusted person on a regular schedule. Unlike house cleaning, which addresses how a home looks, home management addresses how a home runs.
-
No. We are a household management service, not a cleaning service. We don't scrub floors, clean bathrooms, or deep-clean appliances. We handle domestic operations: the tasks that keep a home running day to day. Many of our clients also have a house cleaner, and the two services work very well together. If you need a cleaner, we're happy to recommend one.
-
A personal assistant typically handles professional and administrative tasks, like scheduling, errands and correspondence. A household manager handles the domestic operations of a home. That means laundry folding, kitchen resets, linen changes, fridge and pantry upkeep. Lighter Home focuses specifically on the recurring tasks that keep a home running, not professional or personal admin.
-
A house cleaner makes your home look clean. A household manager makes your home run. Lighter Home handles the operational layer of your home. For example, the laundry that needs to be put away, the kitchen that needs to be reset, the fridge that needs to be checked, the mail that needs to be sorted. These tasks aren’t covered by a house cleaner, and they accumulate into a significant mental load.
-
Our clients are dual-income professional families in Gainesville, typically two working adults, often with children, whose homes are clean but never quite under control. They have a cleaner, maybe. What they don't have is anyone managing the household. That's what we do.
-
Yes. Lighter Home carries full general liability insurance. Your home and its contents are protected.
Services and Pricing
-
A typical weekly visit handles whatever the household needs within your agreed scope, usually some combination of laundry, kitchen reset, linen changes, fridge and pantry check and mail sorting. We also do light tidying of common areas and leave you a note after each visit about what was done and anything we noticed. The details are worked out at your Home Assessment and adjusted as your family's needs change.
-
Most weekly visits run two to three hours, depending on your household's scope. The exact duration is determined at your Home Assessment and adjusted as your needs change. Twice-weekly visits are typically shorter, since the house stays closer to baseline between visits.Twice-monthly visits are typically longer, since tasks are more likely to accumulate between visits.

Yes. Every new retainer client begins with a 90-minute paid Home Assessment ($95, applied toward your first month's retainer). This is how we learn your home: your routines, your preferences, where things live, and what matters most to you. It's what makes the difference between someone doing tasks and someone managing your home.
-
Yes. The Project Day and The Light Edit (decluttering) are available to non-retainer clients. We do ask for a brief consultation before any project visit.
-
We don't do grocery shopping, but we do maintain a running low-stock list during each visit so you always know what the household needs.
Logistics and Trust
-
You don't need to be home once we've established routines together. Most of our retainer clients provide a key or door code and come home to a household that's been managed, which is the best part. We’ll leave you a short note after every visit so you always know what was done.
-
Lighter Home is fully insured. As a solo owner-operated service, you will always know exactly who is in your home. It’s the same person, every week, who you've met, vetted and built a relationship with over time. This consistency is the foundation of the trust our clients place in us.

Book a free consultation and we’ll have a brief conversation about your home, your schedule and what you need. If it's a good fit, we’ll schedule your Home Assessment and get you on the calendar. No pressure, no obligation.
